Welcome to SempRef!
This review surveys formal statements, advisory documents, public resolutions, and study materials produced by major Christian traditions regarding artificial intelligence (AI). The purpose of this document is descriptive rather than evaluative. Updated May 25, 2026 with a review of the pope's Manifica Humanitas
Artificial Intelligence (AI), particularly large language models (LLMs), represents one of the most consequential technological developments of the modern era. Its rapid integration into education, communication, business, governance, and creative industries raises urgent theological and ethical questions for Christians

Within confessional Reformed Christianity, LLMs may seem like an unlikely pair with 16th-century confessions and old systematic theologies. Yet observers note that Reformed scholars, seminarians, and pastors are uniquely positioned to leverage LLM technology.
AI is already being used in churches — sometimes thoughtfully, sometimes quietly, sometimes recklessly. The question is no longer whether AI will be encountered in ministry contexts, but whether it will be governed, disciplined, and owned by those who lead.
Among all applications of artificial intelligence, none raise more serious ecclesial concerns than its use in preaching and pastoral counseling. These two functions stand at the heart of ordained ministry.

Real-life scenarios that church leaders are either already facing or soon will face. Think of these case studies as practice drills for a sports team. You wouldn’t send a football player onto the field without running plays in practice .
Some resources are good, but scattered. R3 is our attempt to make the search feel less like rummaging and more like being handed a well-marked map. It gathers key Reformed media, institutions, and denominational resources into one curated directory—so whether you’re just getting oriented or looking for a deeper dive, you can start here and move forward with peace
